Lighting Tutorial

Here's a tutorial that goes over the basics of lighting in Maya.
Follow along as best you can. I don't know what he's talking about in the beginning with a weird blue circle tool, so ignore that. Just place them where you want them and use Panels > Look through Selected (with the spotlight of your choice selected) to see through your spotlight and move it around as if it were a camera.

It'd be nice if you guys at least take a look at this tutorial by the next time we meet so we can go through the demonstration quickly.

On a side note, you guys are doing awesome!!! I can't believe how quickly you're all picking this stuff up! Keep at it, it'll be hard, but you guys' hard work will be worth it in the end!

skin weight painting

Found a "shortcut" to weight painting...press CONTROL and then paint; it removes the influence from areas where you don't want it.

I'm now at the point where Heather was during class Thursday, with crazy vectors pointing everywhere. Any tips?

Shading Tutorials.

Hey guys, sorry for the late post.

Here's the tutorials for shading.

Remember by next week I'd like to have:

  • The arm rigged and skinned with the hand following.
  • An accessory that you modeled 'parent constrained' onto the moving arm.
  • A shader for the arm/hand that has: a painted surface, plus a displacement attached.

The level of intricacy you apply is up to you. As long as you have something you'll be on the right path to being 3D pros.

Thanks guys. Email me if you have any problems/issues
