Heather's Final Animation

Hi there. Here's my final.

https://vimeo.com/41334534

My final full size render was too big to upload to vimeo, so the half-size looks a little blurry. If anyone knows how to fix this, that'd be great...

Help Session

Three decided on a help session.  Was it 3:00 on Saturday?

Pixar Cinematographer Sharon Calahan: Light

References for you to watch later when you have more time....

Sharon Callahan came here a few years ago and gave one of the best talks I have heard from industry people.  This is from an interview of her at CGSociety.  Good references here.  The rest of the talk is good too.

"For Sharon Calahan, great cinematography requires a "strong sense of design and style." She adds, "It definitely has to serve the story well and have an emotional resonance with the audience." Several internationally acclaimed cinematographers standout. "Roger Deakins [Fargo] is somebody whom I greatly admire, Caleb Deschanel [The Natural], and some of the greats like Conrad Hall [In Cold Blood]; they had and have a strong artistic vision that takes your breath away. You can watch the movie with the sound off and be amazed by how beautiful it is." Calahan believes, "Understanding how light works is vital, which is why I paint; it forces you to look closely and understand what’s happening. There’s no shortcut to learning that."

!!! Submitting your work to VIST Show

READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS FROM GLEN CAREFULLY!

DEADLINE:  Monday, April 30th at 4:00pm
---------------------------------------------
Step 1: Submit your work

A folder called "VIST_Show2012" is located on the desktop of the
podium-machine in the Mac Lab for project submissions. If your
project(s) are stored on a personal external firewire/USB drive, you can
connect your drive to this machine and then transfer your files to the
appropriate sub-folder of "VIST_FallShow_2011." Project files can also
be submitted via CDs or DVDs. Consult with your instructor.

Use the following file-naming convention!!! Not only will it
help during the editing process, but it plays a more important role as
we strive to archive the work of all of our students.

lastName_title_classNumber.extension
(all lower-case, no spaces)

For example, if Jane Smith was going to submit a MOV file of "My
Journey" for 305, she would name her file:

smith_myjourney_305.mov

If multiple people worked on the project, just put the last name of the
person who submitted it (and make sure that the other people involved
have their names listed in the credits).

If the full title is too long to put in a file name, put a
"representative" title that is descriptive enough that we know what the
file is. Make sure the full title is somewhere in the body of the piece.

If the piece is from outside of a class, put "_indy" instead of
"_classNumber".

If you are a TA submitting a class reel, name it
"class_reel_classNumber.extension"

We will accept AVI, or MOV files. For "quality" reasons, the preferred
compression settings are uncompressed, tiff sequence, or animation.
Submit your projects ASAP.  If we encounter a problem importing your
file into the final timeline, we want as much time as possible to
correct it.

If you have any questions, or need help getting your files transferred,
let us know at help@viz.tamu.edu
---------------------------------------------

Step 2: Inform us of your submission.

Send a 'reply' to this email (do not change the subject-line

When is your work due? Mon 5/30 or Sun 5/13?

(Thanks to Cindy for catching my dates - off by a month!)

Please note different dates:

1)  Mon 4/30  film due to Glenn for Undergraduate VIZ SHOW (which will be W 5/2, 6 pm, Geren).

2)  Sun 5/13  work due to me so I can grade and put in grades to Howdy on Mon 5/14.

So...

1)  If you want your work to appear in the 5/2 show, please have work in to Glen on M 4/30.
After seeing your work in the show, you may want to change it before you hand it in to me.

2)   If you did give work to Glen for show, continue work and hand in to me by Sun 5/13.

In all cases please burn a CD of all work done this semester for me to have as references, and to grade.

Hope this helps,

Thanks, and gig'em.
